Start Campaign Medal
 
The 1914 Star Campaign Medal or Mons Star was awarded to any member of the British or Indian Expeditionary Force by the British authorities, who had served in France or Belgium between the outbreak of war in August 1914 and 22/23 November 1914.

The medal features the date - 1914 with AUG for August above 1914 and NOV for November below. A clasp or bar was also instituted in 1919 for the medal bearing the words 5th Aug.-22nd Nov. 1914 and awarded to those who had operated under enemy fire during this period.

Those who recievd the 1914 star were illegible to receive the 1914-15 Star. All of the medals were officially named with the recipient''s number, rank, name and unit. (In the case of commissioned officers medals no number will be
present.)

Abbreviations were used for the recipients ranks such as Pte. (Private) and R. Dub. Fus. (Royal Dublin Fusiliers).

Approximately 378,000 were issued and recipients of this medal also were entitled to receive the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
